Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati: The First Couple:

Who did the first love marriage? Yes, you guessed it right, it was between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. But it was more than a love story; it is like an epic where one sees the dedication and sacrifices for true love. But how did all this happen? How did a God of ghosts and animals marry the princess of the mountains? How did the impossible become possible? Let us find out.

Is it the dedication of Parvati's love for Shiva?

Shiv Ji is part of the trinity who governs the world with others. Known as a destroyer and innovator of new life, how can one love him? How can one love someone who has no family or background, who lives in the mountains, is dressed like a sage, and has lots of followers in the form of Ganas, ghosts? Is it the dedication of Parvati's love for Shiva that makes their marriage possible? Let us find out and give answers to every question regarding their marriage.

Sati, Parvati and, the relationship with God Shiva:

Everyone knows about the shakti peethas of Maa Sati. But do you know that Maa Sati was Mahadev Ji's first love interest? Yes, Sati/Uma was the daughter of the great Vishnu devotee King Daksha. Going against her father's decision, she chose Shiv ji and married her. It was one of the events in the King King Daksha, where Shiv Ji was insulted by her father, which made her very angry. She, in her anger, vowed that she would take rebirth in a father's house who would respect her marriage rather than insult her husband, God Shiva. After that, she jumped into the fire and burned herself.

We all knew what happened after that and how Shiv ji destroyed everything just for his love. However, Sati Maa was reborn after many years as the Goddess Parvati, the daughter of Parvataraja, the King of the Himalayas.  Sage Narada visited her when she became an adult and told her the purpose and story behind her birth. He reminded her that she is the reborn of Maa Sati and that she should dedicate her entire life to God Shiva. To marry God Shiva, she needs to do Tapasya and marry him.

God Shiva: Lost in self-reflection and meditation:

After the loss of Maa Sati, Shiv Ji was full of anger and frustration. So, to get rid of the emotions, he went to the Himalayas and went for meditation. He meditated for years, and Maa Parvati's penance was not reaching him. He distanced himself from worldly affairs and went into deep meditation.

Meanwhile, one of the demons, Tarakasura, started havoc everywhere. Knowing that, as per God Brahma's boon, he can be killed only by Shiv ji's son, and Shiv ji is in deep meditation and will never marry, Tarakasura becomes confident. The Devas also got restless and wanted to wake Shiv Ji at any cost.

The Kamdeva and Shiv Ji story:

At last, the Devtas went to Kamadeva (the God of Love) and requested him to wake God Shiva. First, Kamdeva and his wife Rati danced, and then Kamdeva shot a Cupid Bow (an arrow with flowers) towards God Shiva's chest.

It angered Shiv Ji, and he opened his third eye. The flames from it burned Kamdeva to ashes. After her husband's death, Rati also decided to jump into the fire with him.

Seeing this, the devas came in between and assured her that he would bring Kamadeva back to life once God Shiva married Parvati. Hearing this, Rati stopped herself and guarded her husband's ashes.

Soon after Kamdev's incident, the cupid arrow started showing its effects on Shiv Ji. He soon realized the devotion to and love of Parvati. After learning that Maa Parvati is Sati's incarnation, he decided to marry her. Soon, Goddess Parvati is decorated in beautiful garments and jewellery; God Shiva, on the other hand, comes in his usual attire, and seeing this Mother of Parvati, Meena collapses.

Seeing this, Maa Parvati begged God Shiva, “I don’t mind how you are. All I want is for you to be the way you are. But for my mother’s sake, just show a little more pleasant self." Hearing her request, he took the form of Sundaramurti, the most beautiful and handsome among the three main supreme gods.

Also, God Shiva brought Kamdev back to life after this, but he can be seen only by Devi Rati. However, he was incarnated as the son of God Krishna and reunited with Rati.
