So, it’s story time. Most of the Indian festivals have a story behind them. One such story is of Holika and Prahlad. According to Vishnu Puran, once there was a king Hiranyakashyap. Blinded by power, he declared himself God. He commanded everyone to worship him as god. However, his son, Prahlad disobeyed his father’s order. He was a great Vishnu devotee. So, he continued to worship Lord Vishnu. 

Holika Got Burned in Fire: How Ironic!

Hiranyakashyap got angry by seeing his son disobeying him. So, he made many efforts to kill his son. But one day his sister Holika asked him to give her a chance. She had a boon that she can never burn in fire. So, she attempted to burn Prahlad alive. But miraculously, Prahlad’s faith over lord Vishnu protected him. Whereas, Holika died by burning in the fire.
